Manchester Magic is an English basketball team from Manchester, competing in the English Basketball League, Division 3. They play their home games at the Amaechi Basketball Centre, which was funded by former NBA star John Amaechi.
In April 2007, they formally rejected an offer to join the British Basketball League, instead choosing to remain in the second-tier semi-professional EBL Division 1, along with Worthing Thunder and Reading Rockets.[1]
After a long tenure in the top tier of the English Basketball League, the team decided to play in Division 3 for the 2011-12 season. According to club director Joe Forber, the club's intention is "to forge a much closer link between the youngsters... and the men's team". [2]
